The Inauguration Ceremony of Low Carbon Green Hotel Development Alliance


Gathering the Strength of the Hospitality Industry and Building a Green and Low Carbon Future Together

To promote low carbon and environmental protection, and in line with the climate strategy and goals of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, Low Carbon Green Hotel Development Alliance (LCGHDA) was jointly founded by Macau’s hotel and tourism industry, industry partners, and professional alliances of the Mainland China and Macau. The inauguration ceremony was held on December 4th, 2021 at MGM COTAI. During the ceremony, LCGHDA signed the first strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University, laying the first milestone of its establishment. In the sharing section, Mr. Wang Youwei, Director of the China Green Building Council and Mr. Zhou Jian, Deputy Director of the Institute of Low Carbon Economy, Tsinghua University, delivered important messages to the audience regarding the topic of “dual carbon national goals”.

Unveiling Ceremony Marks the Establishment of LCGHDA

LCGHDA gathers over 30 leading enterprises, professional organizations and academic institutions from Mainland China and Macau as its members. The leadership structure is composed of authoritative green experts from Mainland China, leaders in environmental protection sector in the Greater Bay Area, and prominent social luminaries, including Pansy Ho, Founding Chaireperson of LCGHDA; Wang Youwei, José Chui Sai Peng, Ho Keng Lon, Wong U Kai, Ma Chi Ngai, Cheong Kit, and Phil Kim, Honorary President of LCGHDA ; and Kennth Feng, President, Albert Chuck, Director, and Wu Chou Kit, Chief Supervisor of LCGHDA. The Ministry of Economy of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R, China Green Building Council and Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University act as the guidance units, while the Macau Institute of Engineers and Vong Hin Fai Lawyers & Private Notary act as the consultant units.

LCGHDA aims to work together with hotel, tourism and construction industries to leverage their respective strengths, deepen regional exchanges, jointly promote low-carbon and environmental awareness, share best practices, develop and implement decarbonization goals. With members’ professional knowledge, research results and practical experience, LCGHDA will provide innovative, feasible and diversified insights and practical measures base on theories and practices, to support China’s efforts in achieving dual carbon goal.

Pansy Ho, the Founding Chairperson of LCGHDA and Co-Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China said, “LCGHDA intends to map out various innovative, feasible measures to reach carbon peak and carbon neutrality in line with the national climate goals by gathering the strength of the hotel industry. As a starting point, our goal is to promote the transition to a green and low-carbon economy, and to open up the ecological chain of green tourism, green community and green economy. Over the years, companies in the Greater Bay Area have been responding to the call of the Nation and vigorously promoting the concept of green development. The establishment of the alliance represents a larger platform, a broader vision and more opportunities. In the future, LCGHDA will expand its cooperation with top institutions in tourism, academic, economic and other industries. With a complex development structure, it will fully align with the carbon reduction goals set by the national and the Macau Government.”

To reduce the risks associated with climate change caused by environmental pollution, LCGHDA will vigorously encourage the industry to share and exchange ideas, regularly invite professional organizations, academic institutions and relevant experts to share their insights and practical experience through training and exchange programs. LCGHDA will also organize study tours to visit green hotels and buildings in Greater Bay Area, so as to achieve synergy of resources and common development, and further promote the culture of green building. In addition, LCGHDA will work closely with government and other organizations to promote energy conservation and decarbonization knowledge to the younger generation through activities and courses, and to arouse the environmental awareness to the community.

Green and low carbon has become a common topic in China and even around the world. LCGHDA will exert all its strength to contribute to the global environment, tourism and economy in a long-term future.
